Extension Metadata
About this extension
Host Block is a small, privacy-oriented browser extension that blocks network requests to listed domains using Manifest V3 and the declarativeNetRequest (DNR) API.
What you can do
• Choose list strength: Light, Normal, Pro, Pro++, or Ultimate
• Block hosts used for ads, tracking, and related noise (domain-level blocking)
• Turn blocking on or off
• Allow the current site when something breaks
• Refresh with ↻ or enable daily auto-update (at most once per 24 hours)
• See last update time, list version, and domain/rule counts
How it works
• No filter list is shipped inside the package
• When you update (manually or automatically), the extension downloads a public domain list, packs hosts into DNR rules, and applies them in the browser
• Settings and the domain list stay in local browser storage only
• Dynamic DNR rules persist; the extension does not rebuild them on every wake
Privacy
• No accounts, analytics, or telemetry
• No data collection or transmission of personal information
• Network use is limited to downloading the chosen public blocklist when an update runs (jsDelivr / GitHub)
• Firefox data_collection_permissions: none
Limitations
• Host/domain blocking only — not full cosmetic ad blocking, scriptlets, or element hiding
• Larger lists use more storage and may take longer to apply
• Some sites may need “Allow this site”
Not affiliated with any third-party list author. Default lists are public multi-tier DNS domain blocklists from the HaGeZi project (GPL-3.0); credit and list license remain with that project.
Source is plain, unminified JavaScript with no bundler.
