Adaptive Tab Bar Color by Eason & Yue

by mountain.spider, a year agoI love this. The only thing I would wish is that that would highlight a little bit more obvious which tab you on when it changes to a darker color like on my Mac M1, and on windows, the black/dark purple and certain colors like really bright, yellow/white, etc.
It's harder to tell which tab it's on making it easier to close because all the tabs blend into the same color. Sometimes with certain color super dark or in general, the color black/purple. (color used in the Firefox review section or solid black) all the tabs blended into one you normally have to scroll up until it changes colors to make it more obvious to close.
On some website, it has two colors so it won't change colors making all your tabs in one color if you have multiple. Example:
you're reading multiple articles, have multiple tabs open on same website to read, than close. have multiple tabs open. At a glance, you can't tell which one to close because the icon is the same, and the colors is completely solid and all the tabs become completely solid. Sometimes making you close the in-correct tab, then have to reopen it using a shortcut and find the one you want to close because it's not obvious
This only happens if there's multiple tabs obviously and then you can't use the icon as guidance because they're all the same color. The only way you can easily tell if media is playing because it highlight with media files playing.
It would be easier if they made something surrounding it to make it obvious which tab is the one you're seeing, to make it easy to close at a glance, without using hover or moving the page around to force it to change to a color.

posted a year agoHi mountain.spider, thanks for the great feedback! You can actually change the active tab colour to make it more noticeable—just open the add-on popup or go to the options page → Theme Builder → Selected Tab. Hope that helps! 😊

- Rated 5 out of 5by ebayybe, 12 days agoI’ve been looking for a way to make the Firefox UI more native and adaptive, similar to macOS Safari. This extension nailed it. The colors are picked accurately and softly, and the transitions are smooth. The tabs no longer stand out as a gray block but blend into the website seamlessly. Amazing job.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Raygen, 14 days agoIt's good, but it's a bit laggy. Just like Dark reader: It has an impact on browser's performance.

- Rated 5 out of 5by scumhero, 18 days agoI checked all the scripts in the .xpi file locally on my device and confirmed for myself that the extension only reads local CSS and does not contain any outgoing tracking or telemetry code.
But since I’m already creeped out, I’ll turn off auto-updates and recommend others do the same :) I hope permission can be bypassed in the future.
Edit: Indeed, that'll definitely save some time XDDeveloper response
posted 18 days agoHi, scumhero. Respect to you for checking the code! Alternatively, you can also build the add-on from the source code on GitHub and compare it with the .xpi file :) - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 5639510, 19 days agoStarting with version 4, the tab bar and URL bar on the Quick Dial-startpage no longer change color. That's why I'm back to using version 3.3.2.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Kai, 19 days agoI was skeptical when a recent update required all-site permissions, and it turns out the extension has now been suspended for violating Mozilla's policy. While I'm not sure why the developer made that choice, it is truly unfortunate.
Could they have been unauthorizedly misusing user data? Personally, I don't believe full website access is necessary just to change themes. It actually functioned perfectly well without those privileges in the past.
Either way, it's a pity that we've lost yet another wonderful extension.Developer response
posted 19 days agoHi Kai, I believe there is a misunderstanding here. Mozilla didn’t suspend the add-on; instead, I manually deactivated v4.0.3. I was migrating ATBC to MV3, which is more transparent about permissions. However, a bug in that version forced ATBC to roll back to MV2, and thus the “full website access” prompt appeared. ATBC never collects any telemetry or user data, and I publish it transparently under my real name. Many apologies for the confusion. - Rated 1 out of 5by Luz, 20 days agoWas a good extension, now asks for permission to acess data from all sites, shady.
Do not recommend.Developer response
posted 20 days agoHi, Luz. Sorry for the frustration. To access the webpage content, ATBC has always required to “access your data for all web sites”. Without it, ATBC could never work. You received the permission prompt because there was a rollback from MV3 to MV2 framework. - Rated 5 out of 5by Aveen, 20 days ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by deadinside, 21 days agoThis was a 5 star extension until the last update. Now, access to your data for all websites is now required by default. Goodbye.

posted 21 days agoHi deadinside, thanks for trying out the add-on! ATBC utilises content script to efficiently extract colour from websites, which unfortunately requires “Access your data for all web sites”. - Rated 5 out of 5by Alfredinik, 21 days agoMolto utile e moderna. Sarebbe bello che firefox avesse un effetto glass come safari.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18899839, 21 days agoNo way this addon needs the permissions it now asks for. Very shady.
Developer response
posted 21 days agoHi, sorry for the frustration! ATBC, as always, requires “Access your data for all web sites” to be able to use content scripts on websites. v4.0 was an exception due to a mis-configuration.
