by rsbrux, 6 years agoThis was an indispensable add-on for me until today (16 Sept. 2020). Today's update (v 1.36) has broken OneTab completely. I can no longer save tabs, nor can I get the OneTab page to open. I am using Firefox 80.0.1 running under Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
I was able to revert to v1.29 (which still works) on a Windows PC, but only by first removing and then re-adding OneTab, which resulted in the loss of all of my stored tabs. The instructions at https://www.one-tab.com/firefoxRestore are evidently outdated, as the indicated "simple-storage" folder under Windows 8.1 Pro x64 is empty, regardless of whether Firefox is running.
Having learned from my experience with the Windows PC, I disabled updates on my Ubuntu PC. This appeared at first to have the desired effect. However, when I started Firefox again after rebooting the system, OneTab was missing completely. I haven't found any instructions for recovering lost tabs under Ubuntu.
I have made exports of saved tabs on both machines, but they are a few weeks old. OneTab doesn't appear to have an automatic backup facility, and since it is unclear where its data now resides, I see no way to implement one.
Update: OneTab is working again as of th e new version, 1.39 (see developer response below), so I am upgrading my rating to 4 stars. I especially applaud OneTab's efforts to require the minimum permissions needed, although I would caution users to check the setting for reading tabs in private sessions, which is enabled by default.
The add-in is so useful that I would give it five stars, if:
1. The instructions at https://www.one-tab.com/firefoxRestore were updated. In case anyone is interested, OneTab appears to now store its data in an SQLite db in a folder named "idb" under \storage\default\moz-extension+++1297484c-254f-45f9-a970-69c5c1cc0f50^userContextId=4294967295
2. It would add an automatic backup/export feature. The HTML export/import works very well. How much trouble would it be to automatically store the export file? This could be an option to be done on each update of the list.
Judging by the posts my web search turned up, this isn't the first time a bug has caused OneTab users to lose data. Regardless of the problem's source, I am sure that many users would be glad of some such insurance.

posted 6 years agoHi, sorry about this. We've been working with Mozilla all morning to resolve this. Mozilla have confirmed it was due to a bug in Firefox (related to extension permissions downgrades).
To fix OneTab, just go to “about:addons” in your Firefox address bar, click the ‘cog’ icon in the top right, and click ‘Check for updates’. This will upgrade you to OneTab v1.39, which fixes the issue.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Koiebe, 9 hours agoNB! DO NOT USE THIS GARBAGE OF an addon. Yesterday received some update and today months of work is gone forever - no DB backup no nothing! It is not coded well at all!
I DID not refreshed my Firefox, neither did some kind of cleaning of the browser or Windows whatsoever.
What a f%#king shame !!!
I do not see any reason why is recommended app by Firefox, when I read that clearly I'm not the only one affected.
And please developers, don't say it is Firefox fault. It is not the only add-on we use. You can read firefox code, and fix your own! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14615850, 9 days ago

posted 17 days agoHi, I'm sorry this happened. It's definitely not a bug in our code, though. Something is wiping Firefox's internal storage - it's pretty much impossible for us to accidentally write code that would suddenly just wipe the entire contents of the storage and then delete the entire OneTab database after that.
Some "privacy cleaner" software will wipe Firefox data, or it could have been a crash causing a disk write error that corrupted the storage areas. Firefox's "Refresh" feature also wipes clean the extension storage. Being low on disk space when the browser is trying to write to its databases can also cause corruption.- Rated 5 out of 5by Rio Chandra, 20 days agoI love this. It restore my RAM instantly (because all tabs are closed and save the link). Web version is easy to use, instant response, drag-n-drop everywhere. I suggest add Ctrl+z (cmd+z) to undo previous action (if user accidently delete link. Also I suggest add right-click action to directory for easy quick-action.
Overall, I love it. thank you for you all effort.Developer response
posted 19 days agoThanks, Rio :) We'll be implementing an undo feature in the future, especially to be able to undo move operations. Please also contact us at one-tab.com/feedback as we'd love to get more detail on the quick actions you're referring to so we can ensure we're building the right thing. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 15161687, 20 days agoStill having catastrophic data loss every few months. Been this way for years. Garbage

We are working on cloud sync to ensure you can keep the data safe. - Rated 5 out of 5by goqqtw, a month ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by sdfds, a month agoit worked very well for me till some of the last updates, now when I open it via context menu the tab appears as the pinned leftmost one, and I have to perform a few additional clicks to unpin it and place as the rightmost one, where I usually need it. I just hope the developers will return the usual behavior of this function. All the rest features work well for my needs, thank you guys!

posted a month agoHi, do you remember recently being asked if you want to "Refresh Firefox"? This is a prompt shown to you when you upgrade to a new Firefox version (there is a new Firefox version released every month). This feature, confusingly, wipes clean all add-on storage including OneTab's storage. If Firefox ever gets a disk corruption, that could also cause data loss.
I'm very sorry this happened to you. We're working on cloud sync so in the future this can't happen.- Rated 2 out of 5by What???, a month agoI have same problem with this extension as other users where it would randomly wipe out my tabs. I noticed this on Chrome too.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Mr Buckeye, 3 months agoDeleted all my tabs without saving, after new update, tabs do not show up in Onetab window. This problem is on Zen Browser
Developer response
posted 3 months agoHi, the Zen browser's extension API does not have full compatibility with Firefox extensions unfortunately. Many extensions won't work with it. We hope they will improve compatibility with Firefox.
